READY, SET, GO!

Ready, Set, Go!

Ready, Set, GO! is a program designed by the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC).  It is design to help homeowners take step-by-step precautions to prepared for a wildfire.  Concerned citizens working with their local fire departments can receive or download free materials to distribute to their communities and/or Home Owners Associations.   Many land management agencies including State Forest Services and local fire departments have programs to assist homeowners in being prepared.

Preparing For  Evacuation


Ready – maintain yard (spring & fall clean-up), clean gutters and roof, make an evacuation plan, sign up for county emergency notifications.


Set – Pre-evacuation, the 6 Ps, if you're elderly or have physical mobility or health issues you may want to evacuate, pre-pack vehicles, back vehicles in driveway for ease in leaving.

Go – Leave early, don’t try and shelter in place, leave porch light on,

County Emergency Notification Systems


Each county has a different emergency notification systems for their residences.  Code Red or Everbridge, are two software programs commonly used to notify the public of severe weather, wildfire, floods, or other emergency situations.  They are also commonly referred to as reverse 911 calls.  To sign-up contact your local Sheriff or County Emergency Operation Center.  
  


Code Red


Code Red is a frequently used high-speed telephone emergency notification system that allows public safety personnel to send messages directly to residents - whether they are home or away - during an emergency. 

Contact your county Sheriff or Emergency Operations Center to find out what your local emergency notification system is and get signed up!

Pre-evacuation and Evacuations


Keep These SixP's” Ready In Case Immediate Evacuation Is Required:

Successfully evacuating your home is all about being prepared. That means signing up for emergency notifications from your local emergency management agency (Read here about Ready, Set, Go

It also means deciding before an event, exactly what you can or should take with you.  These 6 "P's" should help you remember.

  • Prescriptions, vitamins, and eyeglasses.
  • Pictures and irreplaceable memorabilia.
  • Personal computer hard drive and disks.
  • “Plastic” (credit cards, ATM cards) and cash.
